Layering Shapes
Have you ever just picked one shape to create your card front? It’s really quite easy! In this post, I show you a layered look, using the Perennial Postage bundle. This bundle includes sentiment stamps and some awesome dies with a postage stamp edge.
Measurements:
- Card Base: Pool Party cardstock 5 ½” x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”
- Inside Layer: Basic White cardstock 4” x 5 ¼” – I cut mine with the largest postage stamp die, which makes it smaller
- Top Layer: Pebbled Path cardstock 4” x 5 ¼” – embossed with the Softly Sophisticated embossing folder (or any of your choice)
- DSP: cut out shapes
- Optional: I fussy cut some florals from one of the DSP papers
I chose a few patterns from the Softly Stippled Designer Series Paper (DSP) for my outside shapes. I cut out several using different sized dies, both square and rectangle. I used Basic White and the label die from this same bundle for the sentiment. I chose “Hello There” from the Softly Sophisticated bundle for the outside sentiment and used “I can’t thank you enough” from Perennial Postage for the inside.
Next, I laid out all my pieces to see what I was working with. I did my stamping before assembling anything. I also added one of the fussy cut roses to the inside panel.

I started with my base and added the embossed layer and my two large die cut layers. It’s all personal preference how you want to lay them – I chose to put the embossed layer aligned with the card base and the next two layers at angles. Just remember if you go over the edge, you’ll have to trim that part away. I kept everything within the edges of the card base. I adhered these layers down so that I had a base to begin arranging my shapes.

Next you just start layering your pieces. I placed them all on, moved them around and decided basically how I wanted them before adhering them. Keep in mind your sentiment and where you’ll want that to sit. Once you are happy with it, you can start adhering your layers. I put some flat and some up on dimensionals. You could opt to have them all flat if you like.

I felt like ribbon was too much for my card, with the florals on it, so I opted for just 3 gems instead. That’s it! I love how this turned out – it’s sort of elegant (??) and shabby chic? Is that possible? Anyway – I love it and I know the recipient will too.

Bonus Pictures:
These are two cards I talked about in my video and then assembled afterwards. The Calypso Coral & Lost Lagoon card is made with the Modern Oval punch. The Triangle card, made with various shades of brown, was simply triangles cut on a paper trimmer. Both card fronts were made entirely from my paper scraps!! It’s a great way to use scraps – just find a color combination that’s appealing to you and go for it!
